The new £9,000 heat pump grant for oil & LPG homes
If your home is off the gas grid and you heat with oil or LPG, there's a time-limited reason to pay attention: the Government has increased the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for homes like yours to £9,000 — £1,500 more than the standard £7,500.
Why oil and LPG homes specifically?
Homes off the mains gas grid typically rely on oil or LPG, which tend to be more expensive and higher-carbon than mains gas. They're also some of the homes where a heat pump makes the most sense — so the uplift is aimed squarely at helping these households make the switch.
Who qualifies
- Your home is off the gas grid and currently heated by oil or LPG
- You own the property, and it's in England or Wales
- You're installing an air source or ground source heat pump (the £9,000 rate doesn't apply to air-to-air units)
- All the standard Boiler Upgrade Scheme rules still apply — see who qualifies for the full picture
What it means for what you pay
The grant is a fixed amount deducted from your installer's price, so an extra £1,500 comes straight off your final bill. For a typical air source installation, that can make a real dent in the upfront cost. For the full picture on prices, see what a heat pump really costs — those figures are illustrative, and a survey is the only way to get a real number for your home.
The catch: it's time-limited
Unlike the wider scheme (funded to 2030), the £9,000 rate has a firm end date of 31 March 2027. Heat pump installs involve a survey, a design and an install window, so if the uplift matters to you, it's worth starting the conversation in good time rather than close to the deadline.
